A castle is a living body. It suffers from damp and is acquainted with disease. Fontaine-Henry is sorely subjected to this rule, given the erosion over time added to air pollution, which is exclusive to the 20th century. The vigilance and care of its owners now focuses on the rescuing of an endangered masterpiece.
- The François I stairway: a full flight of stairs needs rebuilding
- The East-facing terrace is to be entirely redone lest the damp shall cause
the 12th and 13th century walls to crack, thus potentially threatening to
destabilize the overall central building
- The Renaissance stone filigree eaten into by the acid rain
is on the verge of crumbling into dust.
- The chapel suffers from rising damp.
Beyond State and Department aid, calling on patrons has become necessary. 2010 is the year such an initiative is to be implemented to that end.
